About

My name is David Griffiths, I am a freelance illustrator who mainly creates artwork for children's books and fantasy related themes. I have worked with a wide variety of clients and editorials over the years from original authors to classic tales. Working with a game developer has been one of the highlights in this career as it involved creating environments and character concept designs for an RPG game. I have always been a big fan of the fantasy genre as one can become inspirationally immersed in such a wonderous and fantastical world. I love to use art as a way to explore style, content and expression while learning new things as one goes along.
I began my path as an illustrator by pencil drawing then turned more towards acrylic, the medium I have always prefered. I used to create a great deal of physical painted artwork for many years until technology offered more and more possibilities to explore and discover. I do still use traditional painting but as materials grew more expensive I turned more to digital art and freehand. These days I use my XP-Pen and tablet accompanied by Photoshop to create my illustrations.
I was born in Wrexham, North Wales but have lived much of my life in Britain, lived for about 10 years in Buenos Aires as an English teacher and illustrator when I could get the illustration work and now I am currently based in Southampton, England. I studied at art college for about 5 years, 1 year in Wrexham and 4 years in Manchester and Stockport where I graduated with a HND in illustration.
I have gained a great deal of knowledge and experience illustrating children's books, working with a variety of authors or companies over the years and am always learning new things within the realms of the art world.
